Divers Find Body of Man, 61, Who Went Missing On Irvine Lake

SILVERADO (CBSLA.com) — A 61-year-old man who went missing on Irvine Lake in Silverado on Saturday after he reportedly fell off a pontoon boat while fishing with a friend has been found, authorities said.

Divers recovered his body in 25 feet of water near the location where he was last seen.

Authorities were notified at about 5:45 p.m. Saturday that the man, who was not wearing a life preserver, had gone overboard and could not be found.

The man's companion, who was also not wearing a life preserver, said he heard a splash at the back of the boat and was pulled into the water while trying to help rescue his friend. However, neither were strong swimmers.

The companion was able to pull himself back onto the boat using the anchor line, he told authorities, but the man who first fell overboard went under.

Fire authority personnel and sheriff's deputies were searching for the man on the water and from the air on Saturday, and a sheriff's dive team was also dispatched to help in the search. Members of the dive team continued the search well into the night and resumed the search on Sunday morning.

The deceased was identified as Clarence William Brumfield of Palmdale.

Officials on Sunday said an autopsy is scheduled for this week to confirm any existence of a pre-existing medical condition and cause of death.
