Man Fatally Struck While Pushing Shopping Cart Across Road Near Azusa

AZUSA (CBSLA.com)  A 50-year-old man who was fatally struck by a pickup truck while pushing a shopping cart across a busy road near Azusa on Friday evening was identified by authorities on Saturday.

California Highway Patrol officers said Ricardo Arteaga was crossing the 17200 block of East Arrow Highway on the border of the unincorporated area of Vincent around 8:45 p.m. when he was struck by a 2005 Dodge Ram traveling westbound on the road. The impact sent Arteaga's shopping cart across the road, where it hit a car.

Arteaga was transported to a nearby hospital, where he died from his injuries shortly after 11 p.m., authorities said.

No arrests were made, and alcohol was not suspected to be a factor in the crash.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is being asked to contact the CHP Baldwin Park-area station at (626) 338-1164.
