Retired LA County Firefighter Reported Missing In Simi Valley

SIMI VALLEY (CBSLA.com) —   The Simi Valley Police Department is asking the public to be on the lookout for a missing 63-year-old man.

Steve G. Voegtli is a retired LA County Firefighter.

He was last seen near his home near Madera Road in the Wood Ranch area of Simi Valley around 4 p.m. Wednesday, August 12.

Officials told KCAL9's Rachel Kim that the circumstances surrounding his disappearance are suspicious.

They wouldn't get into specifics with Kim about why his disappearance is considered suspicious.

Voegtli is an avid walker and hiker who knows many trails in the Simi Vally, Agoura, Thousand Oaks and Malibu areas.

He left his car, phone and identification behind.

His family says he has memory problems and believe he might appear disheveled or unkempt.

The missing man engages people in conversations about firefighting as well as surfing and sports.

Friends refer to him as "The Dude."

Voegtli  is white, 6 feet tall, weighs about 180 pounds and has short brown hair with a receding hairline
