Homeless Man Arrested In Connection With Stabbing In Ventura

VENTURA (CBSLA.com) — Police on Monday announced the arrest of a 35-year-old man in connection with a robbery and stabbing that occurred in Ventura.

According to the Ventura Police Department, Jose Luis Ruiz, a homeless man who is known to frequent the Ventura area, was arrested on suspicion of robbery and assault with a deadly weapon on Sunday.

Shortly after midnight on Wednesday, officers received a 911 call from a victim who claimed to have been stabbed in the area of Main and Laurel streets.

Upon their arrival, authorities located two Ventura men suffering from apparent stab wounds.

Paramedics transported one of the victims to the Ventura County Medical Center for treatment of a serious, but non-life threatening injury.

The second victim was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

According to police, the victims were confronted by two male suspects as they left a Circle K store.

The suspects demanded money and belongings from the victims, prior to the attack.

A red sedan was seen driving away from the area.

Officers said a second suspect remains at large.

Detectives described him as a Caucasian man in his 20s who was last seen wearing a black sweater with blue jeans.

The investigation is ongoing.
