Business Picks Up For Roofers In Anticipation Of Predicted El Niño This Winter
PASADENA (CBSLA.com) — Business has picked up for roofing companies in anticipation of what forecasters say could be a powerful El Niño event later this year.
Pasadena homeowners with concerns about what Mother Nature has in store for the Southland have started scheduling roof repairs early.
Anthony Riccio of Total Roofing, Inc. says residents with worries about their roofs surviving the anticipated wet winter started scheduling appointments about 2 months ago.
Total Roofing, Inc. recommends that homeowners have maintenance done on their roofs every few years in order to extend the life of the roof.
Riccio also recommends that homeowners in need of work receive estimates for repairs from three reputable roofing companies and schedule appointments early.
The precautionary measures come as computers models at the National Weather Service's Climate Prediction Center show the Southland on track for a strong El Niño event. In 2010, a moderate El Nino event caused major damage in the Southland.
It's important to note that predicting weather is an inexact science, however. In May of 2014, the National Weather Service said there was a 78 percent chance of an El Niño event by winter, which didn't occur.
