3 Robbery Suspects Arrested After Uber Driver Followed Them From Hermosa Beach Crime Scene

HERMOSA BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Three people suspected of robbing an Uber driver at gunpoint in Hermosa Beach early on Thursday have been arrested after the Uber driver followed them from the crime scene, police said.

Around 1:20 a.m. Thursday, an Uber driver was standing outside of his parked vehicle in a Von's parking lot near downtown Hermosa Beach when a suspect pointed a suspect at the driver and demanded money and the driver's smartphone.

After taking the items, the suspects fled. But the Uber driver followed the suspects' car into the Lawndale area, where he flagged down a Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputy. The suspects were arrested on site and a replica handgun was recovered from their vehicle, according to the Hermosa Beach Police Department said.

The suspects are Anthony Mateo. 19, of Los Angeles; Alexis Steward, 19, of Los Angeles; and Dwaun Jennings, 18, of Pomona, police said. Each is being held on $100,000 bail.
