5 Republican Presidential Hopefuls Gather For Koch Brothers Summit In Orange County

DANA POINT (CBSLA.COM) — Five Republican presidential hopefuls are gathering for a private panel discussion in Dana Point this weekend. The event is being produced by the Freedom Partners Chamber of Commerce, a  free-market advocacy nonprofit funded by billionaire political donors Charles and David Koch.

Candidates scheduled to appear at the St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort in Dana Point are Texas Sen. Ted Cruz; former Florida Governor Jeb Bush; Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker; former Hewlett-Packard Chief Executive Carly Fiorina; and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio.

Politico's chief White House correspondent Mike Allen is moderating the event, which starts 4 p.m. Saturday. He will have a 25-minute policy discussion with each of the invited candidates. Fiorina and Walker are appearing on Saturday and Bush, Cruz and Rubio are appearing on Sunday.

Freedom Partners is notoriously secretive about the location of its annual meetings. It has only said that its summer meeting this year is taking place in Southern California. In a gesture of transparency, the group has invited the media to view a live webcast of this year's event.
