Metro To Test Expo Line In Downtown Santa Monica

SANTA MONICA (CBSLA.com) — For the first time in more than 60 years, a passenger train will roll into downtown Santa Monica on Friday.

The Expo Light Rail Line extension from Culver City to Santa Monica is scheduled to start train testing for the future extension of the Metro Expo Line.

Residents and visitors can expect to see trains moving at street level all day as officials check for vulnerable travel points.

During this time, testing may result in brief interruptions of street traffic as trains cross the intersections, officials said.

On Wednesday, authorities conducted a similar test, but that train was pushed by a truck.

Passengers will not be able to board the Expo Line for at least six more months.

Metro has not yet announced an opening date.
