Pasadena Courthouse To Reopen Some Floors, Courtrooms Following Fire

PASADENA (CBSLA.com) — Officials announced some floors and courtrooms of the Pasadena Courthouse will reopen on Wednesday following a fire that caused a temporary closure.

Around 1:30 a.m. on Monday, crews were sent to the 300 block of East Walnut Street for report of a fire at the courthouse.

Upon their arrival, firefighters located smoke and flames coming from an area on the third floor of the building.

Officials explained cans of wood varnish that were involved in the fire subsequently prompted a HazMat situation, which forced the courthouse to operate on a modified schedule.

The courthouse will operate with the following exceptions today:

— Cases that are scheduled in Dept. A will be heard in Dept. P in the West Wing.

— Cases that are scheduled in Depts. B and C will be heard in Dept. O in the West Wing.

— Cases that are scheduled in Dept. K will be heard in Dept. R in the West Wing.

— Cases that are scheduled in Dept. S will be heard in Dept. 270 in the main building.

According to courthouse officials, Departments D, E, F, G, H and J along with the Clerk's Office and the first, fifth and sixth floors will be open.

Due to fire damage, the second, third and fourth floors of the courthouse will remain closed until further notice.

The Public Defender's Office staff will be temporarily located on the first floor in offices behind the Family Law Clerk's Office.
