Suspicious Death Of 73-Year-Old Man Reported In La Crescenta

LA CRESCENTA (CBSLA.com)  —  Homicide detectives are probing a suspicious death in La Crescenta.

Officials were called to the 3000 block of Frances Avenue around 1:30 p.m. Friday. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said they were sent to the location to do a welfare check after a neighbor said they had not seen the deceased for a period of time.

The victim was identified Sunday as 73-year-old Arthur Palmer.

Officials said he died as a result of blunt force trauma. He was found dead inside the attached garage of his residence.

Neighbors told KCAL9's Brittney Hopper on Saturday that Palmer was a bit of a recluse.

Most of his neighbors believe Palmer was targeted but they don't know why.

"I can't imagine him having anybody be that angry at him, to have that sort of violent reaction to anything that he would do. He was a gentle, gentle guy ," said Kimberly Elowe.

She added, "This is just so very sad. I hope they find out who did this."

Palmer grew up in the home and moved back when his mother became ill, Hopper was told. They also told her he went off the grid several months ago and turned off his water and gas. He also took out his mailbox.

The victim had no other family and lived alone. Palmer was declared dead at the scene.

Flowers were left at the home.

Neighbors said detectives left the premises with dozens of boxes of documents.

There is no suspect information.
