Ex-Burbank High School Volleyball Coach Pleads Not Guilty To Sexual Relationship With Underage Girl

BURBANK (CBSLA.com) — A former coach at Burbank High School pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges of a sexual relationship with a student, officials reported.

Kyle Patrick Roach, 28, faces one felony count of oral copulation of a person under 18 and two misdemeanor counts of child molesting or annoyance, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.

He was working as a girls varsity volleyball coach when he took up a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old female student in 2010, a prosecutor said.

Roach is also accused of anonymously sending sexually explicit text messages to two members of the volleyball team between February and June, Burbank police Lt. Adam Cornils said. Those girls came forward when they began to suspect that Roach might be sending the texts.

Cornils said: "Roach used text messages and social media phone applications anonymously to solicit nude photos from underage females."

The Glendale resident was arrested late last month.

Roach is no longer employed by the Burbank Unified School District, spokeswoman Kimberley Clark told City News Service.

If convicted as charged, Roach could face up to five years in state prison, according to the District Attorney's Office.

He's expected to return to court Aug. 25.
