Crews Work To Repair 2 Water Main Breaks In LA

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Crews Friday worked to repair two separate pipes that ruptured early this morning.

Around 1:45 a.m., Los Angeles Department of Water and Power crews were sent to the 2200 block of North Cahuenga Boulevard at Cahuenga Terrace near the 101 Freeway in Hollywood.

Upon their arrival, authorities were able to quickly turn off the water in the area after an 8-inch cast iron pipe flooded the streets.

The southbound lanes of Cahuenga Boulevard has been closed between Odin Street and Whitley Avenue until further notice.

Officials estimate water to be restored at 4 p.m. today.

Crews were then sent around 2 a.m. to a report of a 6-inch water main break in the 900 block of Robinson and Marathon streets in Silver Lake.

While working to repair the pipe, an LADWP truck fell into a sinkhole. Officials said water is expected to be restored at 2 p.m. today.

Shortly after 6 a.m., the LADWP reported a third water main broke on Cahuenga Boulevard.

Crews have since explained this was mistakenly reported. They are only working to repair two water main breaks this morning.

At this time, about 40 customers have been affected by the water main breaks.
