Julius Randle Shines In Lakers Summer League Loss

LAS VEGAS (CBSLA.com) – The Lakers lost their fourth game of the Summer League season, 88-86, to the Dallas Mavericks, but Julius Randle did score 17 points in the Lakers' loss.

Randle, who had a very unimpressive first two summer league games with the Lakers, went 6-11 from the field scoring 17 points and adding four rebounds.

Lakers guard Jabari Brown played in his first Summer League contest and scored a team-high 19 points for the Lakers on 6-11 shooting. Brown totaled six rebounds but did turn the ball over three times.

The Mavericks were led by by Jeremy Tyler, who played in China last season for the Shanxi Zhongyu. Tyler was drafted out of high school in 2011 by the Charlotte Bobcats, but was never a mainstay on an NBA roster.

He last played in the NBA during the 2013-14 season for the New York Knicks, but Tyler showed no signs of rust as he scored a game-high 25 points on 11-15 shooting.

Mavericks rookie Justin Anderson also added 16 points and four rebounds in 29 minutes of play.

Lakers' rookie D'Angelo Russell struggled again shooting-wise for the Lakers, going just 3-11 from the field scoring eight points. Russell did add six rebounds and five assists however, in 33 minutes of game time.

Jordan Clarkson continued his stellar performance in the Summer League scoring 17 points on 6-13 shooting while collecting five rebounds and dishing out two assists.

The Lakers ended up losing on a Jeremy Tyler lay-up shot with just 1.4 seconds remaining in the game.

D'Angelo Russell was not happy with the loss."When we lose...We let the whole Lakers Nation down, and that's a worldwide nation," Russell said.

This was the first round of the playoffs for the Las Vegas Summer League, as the Mavericks now advance to play the NBA D-League Select team in the second round.

The Las Vegas Summer League will continue to run through Monday.

The Lakers will play the Utah Jazz on Friday, as they failed to advance into the second round of the bracket-style Las Vegas Summer League tournament. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. at the Cox Pavilion in Las Vegas in what will be the final game of the Summer League for the Lakers.
