Downey Man, 22, Drowns Off The Coast Of San Diego

DOWNEY (CBSLA.com) Authorities said a Downey man who was pulled from the water off the coast of San Diego Friday evening has died.

Azfar Alam, 22, was pronounced dead on Saturday afternoon, according to the  San Diego County medical examiner's office.

Alam was found unconscious in the water at La Jolla Cove on Friday evening, along with a teenage girl who was also unresponsive,  authorities said.

The girl responded to resuscitation efforts, according to San Diego Lifeguards who say it's unclear how the two ended up in the water or if they were together.

Lt. Andy Lerum of San Diego Lifeguards told City News Service that high surf and Comic-Con drew more people than usual to San Diego beaches this  weekend.

It was unclear if Alam was in San Diego for the annual comic convention.
