Burbank Woman Recovering From Injuries After Home Invasion

BURBANK (CBSLA.com) — An elderly Burbank woman was recovering Saturday morning after becoming the victim of a home invasion.

Police say the 89-year-old victim around 8:30 p.m. Friday answered a knock at the door of her home, located near Cornell and Bel Aire drives, and a man in his 30s pushed the door in.

The suspect convinced her to open the door after claiming that he had something good to tell her.

The woman, identifying herself only as Gerri, used her medical alert system to call for help.

"He made me so mad," Gerri said. "He kept saying 'I'm here to take your stuff', and I said 'I have no stuff'."

Gerri says the suspect held her captive for nearly 30 minutes. She says he then threw a chair and a footstool at her, and proceeded to beat her.

"I have a sheet on the sofa, so he folded that up and choked me, and put it over my mouth," Gerri said. "He said he was going to shoot me. I said 'go ahead and shoot me', but I don't think he had a gun."

Gerri says the suspect then called out to someone waiting outside, shouting "Dick, this isn't going so good."

She was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

The suspect made off with some of her jewelry.
