Suspect Fatally Shot By Deputies In Hawaiian Gardens

HAWAIIAN GARDENS (CBSLA.com) — Homicide detectives Monday investigated the circumstances surrounding a deputy-involved shooting that took place at a home in Hawaiian Gardens.

Around 9:40 p.m. on Sunday, deputies were sent to a home located in the 12200 block of 216th Street for report of a prowler call.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, the caller informed deputies that a man knocked on their door and attempted to gain access into the home.

Upon their arrival, authorities located a suspect in the backyard of the home, and a deputy-involved shooting occurred.

City officials said the suspect, a Hispanic man, sustained one gunshot wound to his upper body. Paramedics pronounced him dead at this scene. His identity is being withheld pending family notification.

A weapon has not yet been located, deputies added.

The investigation is ongoing.
