4 Firefighters Injured In Blaze, Illegal Fireworks Suspected

FLORENCE (CBSLA.com) — Four firefighters were injured and damage to three separate warehouses in Florence totaled between $1 to $3 million after a fire was sparked by what investigators suspect may be illegal fireworks.

LA County Firefighters responded to the warehouses fire on the7500 block of Maie Ave. near Florence in unincorporated South Los Angeles around 9:40 p.m. on Saturday.

Witnesses described a group of males, possibly juveniles, at the scene shooting illegal fireworks towards mattresses that were located outside one of the warehouses. No suspects were immediately taken into custody, according to a statement by the Sheriff's department.

Unlawful fireworks debris was recovered at the location, and was taken as evidence.

Four firefighters suffered minor injuries, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, and were treated on scene before being released.

In Santa Clarita, a one-acre brush fire was extinguished quickly by firefighters after authorities responded to the 22600 block of La Rochelle Dr. around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Numerous reports of illegal fireworks were called in throughout the area just prior to the fire. No homes were damaged and no injuries were reported.

Arson investigators were looking into the cause of the fire.
