EAST LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Deputies Friday announced the arrest of two men suspected of possessing more than 1,000 pounds of illegal fireworks.

Around 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, deputies seized between 1,000 to 1,500 pounds of illegal fireworks along with 49 explosive-type fireworks described as "M-80's," according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies explained they observed 46-year-old Joseph Valencia selling illegal fireworks to another Hispanic man parked in the 5200 block of Repetto Street. Daniel Guerrero, 44, was also arrested at the scene.

A preliminary investigation revealed Valencia resided a few homes away from where the vehicle was parked. A search warrant subsequently revealed the large quantity of illegal fireworks.

Officials said the illegal fireworks were taken to a local fire house, and the explosive-type fireworks were turned into the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Arson and Explosives Detail for proper disposal.

Valencia and Guerrero were both arrested for illegal possession of explosives, and being in possession of dangerous fireworks without a permit, deputies said.
