AZUSA (CBSLA.com) — About 850 pounds of illegal fireworks were seized from an Azusa home thanks to an anonymous tip, police said Thursday.

After authorities received the tip via the City of Azusa tip app, Azusa police detectives, code enforcement officers and LA County fire investigators on Wednesday went to a home in the 200 block of East Azusa Lane, where a box of illegal fireworks was clearly visible through a partially opened garage door, officials said.

Approximately 850 pounds of illegal fireworks, worth an estimated $8,000, were seized.

Charges may be filed against the owner at a later time, officials said.

Only "Safe and Sane" fireworks are legally allowed in the city of Azusa, and the possession and discharge of any illegal fireworks is strictly prohibited. The fine for the discharge of illegal fireworks in the city of Azusa is $1,000.
