Dodgers beat Diamondbacks 4-3, Win Series

PHOENIX (CBSLA.com) — The Dodgers beat the Arizona Diamonbacks 4-3 tonight, as pitcher Brett Anderson picked up his fifth win of the season.

The Dodgers bats were active early, as Enrique Hernandez started the game off with a lead off triple against Diamondbacks starter Robbie Ray. The next batter, Howie Kendrick, would drive him in with a sacrifice fly to give the Dodgers a 1-0 lead after one.

Hernandez would also double in the 3rd inning, driving in A.J. Ellis to make it a 2-0 lead.

Again, Kendrick would drive in another run with a single to center.

Later in the third Justin Turner hit a deep double to left center field which drove in Howie Kendrick, raising the lead to 4-0 after three innings.

Brett Anderson did not allow a run through his first five innings, but did give up a solo home run to Diamondbacks second basemen Aaron Hill in the 6th inning.

The Dodger lefty had a terrific June, where he went 2-1 in five starts in 33.2 innings pitched. He also struck out 23 in the month, and posted an ERA of 2.67.

He picked up right where he left off on Wednesday. Anderson would register yet another quality start, as he pitched seven innings, surrendering seven hits while striking out seven, and giving up just the one run.

The Diamondbacks would add a run in the 8th inning when Hill drove in another run on a sacrifice fly. Yimi Garcia and Adam Liberatore combined to pitch the 8th and got out of the inning with the lead intact at 4-2.

Kenley Jansen, who was working for the second straight night, gave up a home run to David Peralta in the 9th inning, as the Diamondbacks would cut the lead to 4-3.

However, Jansen would recover and get his 13th save of the season.

Filling in for starting center fielder Joc Pederson, Enrique Hernandez did a stellar job in the lead off spot, registering three hits and two RBI's, as he finished a home run shy of the cycle.

The Dodgers finished their 10 game road trip tonight during which they went 6-4, and return home to Dodger Stadium to play the New York Mets on Friday, July 3rd.

Clayton Kershaw (5-6) will take the mound for the Dodgers against Mets' rookie sensation Noah Syndergaard (3-4).

Kershaw looks to notch his 6th win yet again, after not being able to in his past four starts. His last win was June 6th versus the St. Louis Cardinals. He has been given little to no run support, so the day off tomorrow should help the Dodgers hitters rest and recover in time for Friday's match up versus the Mets.
