Man Wanted In Surprise Tire Iron Attack On Seal Beach Gas Station Customer

SEAL BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Police are searching for a man they say suddenly attacked a Seal Beach gas station customer with a tire iron Sunday.

Authorities say a man used the metal tool to strike a customer from behind as he was refueling his vehicle at a Mobil station at 12240 Seal Beach Blvd. just after 10 p.m.

The victim, a 26-year-old Cypress man, was treated at a hospital for a large cut to his head, Sgt. Phil Gonshak said.

CBS2/KCAL9 obtained a recording of the 911 call the victim placed moments after the attack.

"Some guy just hit me in the head with a crowbar. I'm bleeding profusely from my forehead right now," he's heard telling the operator, adding that nothing was taken from his possession.

"No, he just hit me and ran. I don't know what's going on. Sorry, I'm just like bleeding massively from my head right now and freaking out," the man says.

Police have not been able to establish a motive for the attack.

The attacker, who was last seen running south on Seal Beach Boulevard, was described as a clean-shaven Latino man about 5-foot-11 with a thin build and dark complexion. He wore black tennis shoes, white knee-high socks, long khaki shorts, a black tank top and a black on white baseball hat.

Police are urging Seal Beach residents and visitors to be aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious activity.

Anyone with information about this man's identity or his whereabouts can call Cpl. Mariana Martinez at (562) 799-4100, ext. 1110.
