Double Homicide Investigation Underway After Bodies Of Elderly Couple Found In Glendale Home

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Police are conducting a double homicide investigation after officers found an elderly couple dead inside their Glendale home during a welfare check Sunday.

A spokesperson for the Glendale Police Department told CBS2/KCAL9 they received a call around 9:30 a.m. from a concerned family member.

Officers arrived to the residence, located in the 600 block of Alexander Street, to find the door of the home open and the bodies of a male and female, described as in their late 70s or early 80s, inside.

Police say when they arrived they found newspapers piled up. There was no sign of forced entry and they believe the couple was targeted. The home had not been ransacked and there was money in plain view.

Investigators say the couple's grandson lived at the home but would not confirm if they had been in contact with him. Neighbors said the grandson has moved in less than a year ago.

Neighbors meanwhile said they were shocked to hear of a violent crime being committed in the area.

"This is the first time something happened," said longtime resident Julio Leguicamon, noting he had recently heard something suspicious.

"The only thing is that maybe three nights or four nights ago, midnight, we heard a shot. But we never know where it's coming from, maybe here, maybe some place else," he said.

Investigators say they do not believe a gun was involved.

Sunday evening, KCAL9's Cristy Fajardo said police were still not saying how the couple was murdered but confirmed they died as a result of a double homicide.

"They were a nice and quiet couple," said one neighbor, "I'd see him at church, but he'd have his head down, very quiet."

Police stressed to Fajardo that they had no motive for the attack and no suspects.
