Man, Woman In Stolen Car Lead San Gabriel Valley Police On High-Speed Chase
ARCADIA (CBSLA.com) — Police have arrested a man and woman in a stolen car following a high-speed chase through the San Gabriel Valley.
It started around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday when officers spotted the Chevy Cobalt with paper plates in Fontana, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Ramberto Salcido.
He says it appeared like the female passenger initially was fighting with the driver to stop.
The driver raced off the westbound 210 Freeway and onto city streets, blowing through intersections in San Dimas, Monrovia and Arcadia.
At one point, he was driving on the wrong side of the road.
In Glendora, he pulled into a Stater Bros. parking lot and slowed down - looking as if he might stop - but sped right up again and got back onto the 210.
That's when the situation took a surprising turn: The driver of a semi-truck decided to get involved. He swerved to try and block the suspect but almost ended up hitting a CHP patrol car trailing close behind.
Soon traffic slowed down the stolen car and the suspect exited the freeway in Monrovia.
But when the driver decided to pull into a residential street in Arcadia he found himself trapped in a cul-de-sac.
The man and woman exited the car and surrendered without incident.
Police took them into custody and searched the car.
It's unclear if the woman is being considered a suspect.
Officials have not yet released their identities.
