Community Gathers To Honor 75-Year-Old Man Found Decapitated In Inglewood

INGLEWOOD (CBSLA.com) — As a room full of people held lights in their hands and listened to the voice of Robert Hollis himself, they honored the light his life brought to so many.

"Every time I saw him, he was blessing somebody," a bishop said Monday evening of Hollis, the 75-year-old man whose beheaded body was found inside his Villa Glen apartment last Thursday.

Hollis was described by loved ones as an active churchgoer who sang in choirs.

On Monday night, Hollis' family filled two rows, while hundred friends and churchgoers remembered Hollis, known to many as Bojangles, who had passions for singing, church and cars.

They also reflected on the brutality of his death, which the bishop described as "a crime against humanity."

Family members have said Hollis was legally blind and found decapitated inside his apartment in the 800 block of Glenway Drive. As far as family and friends know, his head is still missing.

"It's an act of terrorism when you murder a blind senior-citizen, who is a churchgoing, God-fearing person, a peaceful man, and you take his head after killing him," Bishop L.J. Guillory, a friend of Hollis', said.

Investigators haven't released information, and the Los Angeles County Coroner's office said a security hold has been placed on his case.

But Inglewood Mayor James Butts, Jr., who came to the vigil, announced that he intends to present a resolution to the City Council to authorize a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.
