According to a LAPD spokesperson, the call occurred after an officer stopped a man in his early 30s whose arm was allegedly wrapped in a towel.

The man told the officer he needed help and as he got closer, the officer believed the man was holding a gun, the spokesperson said.

The shooting occurred after the officer got out of his vehicle and ordered the man to “drop the gun,” according to the spokesperson.
