Hahn Wins Third Straight, A's Beat Angels 4-1

OAKLAND (AP) — Jesse Hahn pitched into the eighth inning for his third consecutive win, Josh Reddick hit a tiebreaking double in the sixth and the Oakland Athletics beat the Los Angeles Angels 4-1 on Saturday afternoon despite committing their majors-leading 70th error.

One day after blowing a five-run lead with ace Sonny Gray on the mound in a 12-7 loss, the A's pounded out five doubles — three in the three-run sixth.

Hahn (5-5) allowed one run and four hits in 7 2-3 innings. He struck out four and walked four while winning for the first time in six starts this season against teams from the AL West.

Rookie Billy Burns had two infield hits to raise his AL-leading mark to 21 while Stephen Vogt added three hits for Oakland, which won for only the second time in the last seven games between the two teams.

Tyler Clippard retired four batters for his 11th save.

The A's went into the game having committed 13 more errors than any other team in the majors but played well behind Hahn until third baseman Brett Lawrie bounced a throw to first baseman Ike Davis in the eighth.

Oakland took a 1-0 lead in the first on back-to-back doubles by Marcus Semien and Stephen Vogt.

Los Angeles tied it on Erick Aybar's RBI single in the sixth.

Reddick, mired in a 3-for-27 funk, doubled down the left field line in the sixth to drive in Ben Zobrist with the go-ahead run. Lawrie followed with a two-out double to make it 3-1 and chase Angels starter Jared Weaver.

Weaver (4-8) allowed four runs on six hits with four strikeouts and one walk. The right-hander has lost his last four starts.

Josh Phegley hit the first pitch from reliever Cam Bedrosian down the third base line for another RBI double. Phegley was thrown out at home by Angels left fielder Efren Navarro trying to score on Eric Sogard's single.

Hahn labored early and had to pitch out of jams early when the Angels put two runners in scoring position with two outs in both the second and third. He settled down to retire eight straight until Los Angeles scored in the sixth.

The A's, who committed four errors in Friday night's loss, backed Hahn with mostly solid defense. Zobrist made a sliding catch of Matt Joyce's short fly to left in the fourth, and Marcus Semien — who leads the majors with 22 errors — turned a pair of double plays.
