Police Search For Violent Serial Robber, Release Images Of Suspect And Vehicle

SOUTH LA (CBSLA.com) — Police detained a man as they search for a violent serial robber responsible for several crimes, including a shooting at a Big Lots store on Tuesday.

Police had earlier released images of the suspect and his vehicle, hoping the public might be able to turn in a helpful tip.

The suspect is responsible for several violent robberies over the past three days, including two shootings. The most recent shooting and robbery occurred on Wednesday at an Arco gas station, where the suspect robbed and shot the store clerk.

The store clerk was undergoing surgery on Wednesday night.

Detectives say the suspect is driving a 2010 to 2015 Cadillac SRX silver crossover-SUV with paper plates.

"I believe that he is desperate for cash quickly, I believe that he is very dangerous, and I believe that he will do (this) until he is caught," LAPD Det. Jerry Gibson said. "The reason that we're here right now is to request information from the public, regarding anybody who knows anybody who drives this type of vehicle or fits this type of description."

Police handcuffed a man shortly after 10 p.m. on Wednesday who was driving a vehicle investigators say matches the suspect's vehicle.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the LAPD's 77th street division.
