1 Dead, 1 Wounded, 4-Year-Old Hurt By Flying Glass In Florence Shooting

FLORENCE (CBSLA.com)  —  Two people were shot, one fatally, and a 4-year-old child was wounded by flying glass Sunday evening in Florence.

Police responded around 8:25 p.m. to a call of an assault with a deadly weapon outside a liquor store at Firestone and Bandera, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Authorities say they found a 60-year-old man was shot several times in the lower leg. He was in full cardiac arrest when they arrived. A 19-year-old man was with a gunshot wound to the upper body.

Both men were taken to a hospital, where the 60-year-old patient was pronounced dead. The 19-year-old victim is expected to survive.

KCAL9's Greg Mills said about four blocks were shut down while officials spent the night searching for two suspects.

Witnesses say the two victims had been talking on the sidewalk when two men walked up to them. The suspects opened fire and ran off.

The shooting is believed to be gang-related.

Anyone with information about this incident was asked to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
