Suspect Wounded In Deputy-Involved Shooting Following Pursuit

AZUSA (CBSLA.com)  —  A suspect was wounded in a deputy-involved shooting following a chase that ended in Azusa, officials said.

The shooting occurred about 6 p.m. at busy the intersection of Citrus and Alosta Avenues, according to Deputy Diane Hecht of the LA County Sheriff's Information Bureau.

Los Angeles County Fire Department Dispatch Supervisor Art Marrujo confirmed that one gunshot patient was airlifted to County-USC Medical Center from the scene.

An Azusa police dispatcher said the suspect was chased to the location where the shooting occurred from the San Dimas area.

KCAL9's Crystal Cruz reported the suspect also crashed his vehicle into the sidewalk before jumping out of his car and trying to evade capture.

A deputy told Cruz the suspect aimed a loaded weapon at sheriffs as he drove by them. Officials said they recovered his weapon at the crash scene.

The suspect was shot in the upper torso. He is in stable condition with a non-life threatening wound.

She spoke to a witness who was at a nearby bus stop who saw everything unfold.

"We just heard one shot go off," said Emilio Zarate, "and right when the shot went off we heard him go 'aaaarh' and then he just took off running. He was being chased. Obviously he did something to be chased."
