Crews Repair Damaged Gas Line In Mid-Wilshire District

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Crews repaired a leaking natural gas line in the Hancock Park area Wednesday after a third-party contractor damaged the two-inch line, officials said.

The leak occurred about 12:30 a.m. near the intersection of Wilshire Boulevard and Orange Drive, according to Southern California Gas Company spokesman Javier Mendoza.

Eastbound lanes were shut down between La Brea and Highland avenues after MTA crews apparently sliced into a gas line near Wilshire and La Brea, according to KNX 1070's Jon Baird. The lanes were reopened around 9 a.m.

No customers were affected by the leak, Mendoza said.

"SoCalGas reminds residents and business owners to call 811 — Underground Service Alert — before you dig in the yard or at construction sites," Mendoza said.

Firefighters were also on scene as a precautionary measure.

A building at Wilshire and Orange was also evacuated, Baird reported.
