Motorcyclist Killed In Palm Springs

PALM SPRINGS (CBSLA.com) — Police Monday investigated the circumstances surrounding a fatal motorcycle collision.

Around 11:10 a.m., officers were sent to the area of Gene Autry Trail and District Center Drive for report of a single vehicle traffic collision involving a motorcycle, according to the Palm Springs Police Department.

A preliminary investigation revealed the motorcyclist traveled southbound on Gene Autry Trail at a high rate of speed, and lost control at District Center Drive.

The motorcycle struck a curb prior to hitting several objects next to the roadway, police said.

According to officers, the victim was ejected from the motorcycle and died at the scene. The identity will be released pending family notification.

No other injuries were reported.

Police have subsequently closed Gene Autry Trail, north of Ramon Road to Escena, in both directions for the next several hours.

Authorities said the Palm Springs Air Museum can still be accessed for the Air Museum Air Fair and Flower Drop event, by traveling southbound from Vista Chino to Gene Autry Trail.
