NEWHALL ( — Officials have announced the arrest of a 48-year-old Newhall man for the murder of his 25-year-old wife.

Sheriff’s Homicide Detectives with the Santa Clarita station were called to the woman’s home Sunday morning for a welfare check.

The home is located in the 22800 block of 9th Street in Santa Clarita.

When deputies arrived, they said they looked inside the residence and saw the victim lying in the living room. The deputies made entry into the residence and discovered the victim was unresponsive and appeared to have injuries consistent with blunt force trauma.

Deputies also located and detained a man, in the residence, later identified as the victim’s husband, Robert Arvizu, 48.

The victim, Courtney Arvizu, 25, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Based on their investigation, the suspect was arrested for murder and is being held in lieu of a $1 million bail.
