2 Dead After Unrelated Shootings Occur Within Minutes Of Each Other

SOUTH LA (CBSLA.com) — Two separate overnight shootings left two people dead on Saturday.

The first shooting occurred just after midnight at S. Western Ave. and W. 52nd St. in South LA. The other shooting occurred in East Hollywood at about 12:30 a.m. Saturday, near Burns Ave. and N. Hoover St.

A third victim in the area, from an apparently unrelated vehicle pursuit, remained hospitalized in critical condition Saturday morning.

In the South LA shooting, a male victim, believed to be in his 40s, was shot multiple times at 12:10 a.m. next to a fence that backs up against a church. The victim's lack of identification led police to suspect robbery as a potential motive of the shooting.

Minutes later, and just a few miles away, another male was fatally shot in the 4200 block of Burns Ave.

Suspects in both shootings are said be outstanding, according to police, who also say they believe the two shootings are unrelated.

However, moments after those two shootings, a police pursuit came to a conclusion with a crash in South LA after police say they were looking for a shooting suspect from a still-separate incident.

The police spotted what they believed to be a suspect's vehicle. The brief pursuit ensued when the driver refused to pull over. The suspect crashed into a victim's car, throwing that victim from the vehicle.

The suspect was taken into custody and that victim remained in critical condition Saturday morning.

Police continue to look for forther information on the two shootings in East Hollywood and South LA. Anyone with information is prompted to contact LAPD. Anonymous tips may be left through the LAPD Crime Stoppers site.
