Police Seek Help To Identify Robbery Suspect In Santa Ana

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — Police Friday sought the public's help to identify a man who used counterfeit money to pay for gift cards that were advertised on Craigslist.

Around 1:47 p.m. on May 8, a male suspect agreed to meet a man in the parking lot between Big-O Tires and In & Out Burger, located in the 3300 block of South Bristol, to purchase gift cards that were advertised online.

According to the Santa Ana Police Department, the suspect handed the victim money in an envelope in exchange for the certificates.

However, when the victim realized the money was counterfeit he told the suspect to hold on. When the suspect proceeded to flee from the parking lot, and the victim grabbed onto the door of his truck and yelled for the suspect to stop.

According to police, the suspect then dragged the victim into the street and fled from the area. The victim let go of the vehicle, and sustained minor injuries during the incident.

Detectives described the suspect as a Caucasian man who is between the ages of 35 to 45-years-old, has a heavy build, short blonde receding hair, and weighs 250 pounds. He was last seen wearing a plaid shirt.

Authorities said the suspect drove a red Chevrolet Silverado Extra cab that is a late 90s to early 2000 model.
