4 Suspects Arrested After High-Speed Pursuit Ended In Downtown LA

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Four suspects were in custody Tuesday after a high-speed pursuit ended with a confrontation in downtown Los Angeles.

The chase began around 2:30 a.m. on the 10 Freeway near Staples Center.

"Based on the fact that the vehicle had paper plates and four possible gang members in the car, officers formed the opinion that the car might possibly be stolen," LAPD Officer Hamilton Alvarenga said. "Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, and the vehicle took off."

The pursuit continued for about 40 minutes to Baldwin Park and back to downtown Los Angeles where it ended on Olympic and Blaine streets in Pico-Union.

The suspects ditched the car and fled the scene on foot.

One suspect attempted to break into an apartment complex and was shot by a non-lethal bean bag gun. He was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Three other suspects were apprehended. All four were men in their 20s.

It was later revealed the vehicle was not stolen.

The incident was under investigation.
