2 Men Shot, Another Assaulted In Domestic Dispute Near UCSB

ISLA VISTA (CBSLA.com) — Two people were shot and another assaulted Monday night in Isla Vista after police responded to a reported domestic disturbance near UC Santa Barbara, KEYT reports.

Officials say the men were taken to hospitals with moderate injuries, and one of them is the suspect, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department. All of them are in their early 20s.

Deputies are continued to search the area for another possible suspect who drove off in a white four-door sedan.

Law enforcement was first called around 7:10 p.m. to an apartment in the 6500 block of Sabado Tarde after gunshots were reported, KEYT reports.

UCSB sent a text alert advising the campus community to stay inside and shelter in place.

By 9 p.m., campus residents were told it was safe to leave their homes.

There continues to be a heavy police presence in the area.

Santa Barbara Sheriff's deputies won't discuss the incident, KEYT reports.

The Isla Vista area was rocked by tragedy nearly a year ago during a mass shooting. On May 23, 22-year-old Elliot Rodger stabbed, shot and ran down people in the beachside community. Rodger killed six people and injured more than a dozen others before taking his own life.
