DUI Suspect Crashes BMW Into Denny's Restaurant

PERRIS (CBSLA.com) — A suspected drunken driver plowed his BMW into a Denny's restaurant Sunday in Perris, injuring a person inside.

Sergio Lopez, 18, was driving east on Fourth Street around 5:45 a.m. when he lost control of his vehicle and careened into the restaurant, Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Sergio Rodriguez.

A customer sitting in a booth suffered minor injuries. He was taken to a hospital to treat a leg injury.

The building was damaged in the crash but authorities say it was structurally sound and allowed the restaurant to remain open for business, Rodriguez said.

Lopez was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving resulting in injuries.

Anyone with information about this crash is urged to call the Perris Police Department at (951) 210-1000, or the 24-hour tipline at (951) 776-1099. All tips can be made anonymously.
