College Friends Go On Kickstarter To Raise Money To Market A New Kind Of Undies

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — College student George Miller said he was sick of his underwear being uncomfortable, chafing him or causing needless sweating.

So what would any enterprising mechanical engineering student do? Engineeer his own.

With the help of three other friends, namely Louis Metzger, the co-founder; Nate Stranzl (media) and Griffen Tymins (marketing), Miller has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise money for a new boxer briefs underwear line -- HoldUps Briefs.

The company's goal? "To bring a new light to an old product."

The briefs themselves, made in America, the group stresses, are made from a fiber called Tencel, derived from wood pulp and bamboo. Call it a new boxer rebellion.

Wait. Bamboo is comfortable? Miller says the fiber is very stretchy and breathes better than nylon or polyester, which is why HoldUps are more comfortable.

While the undies are probably not meant to be worn in public (hey, it worked for Madonna!), they look like swimwear and do come with a side pocket perfect for keys, a cellphone or credit card.

Miller says many people do like wearing the briefs sans pants.

"Although we did not intend for our briefs to be worn as anything but an undergarment, it is becoming more and more apparent that the public likes them both as underwear and as shorts. I'm constantly seeing my friends walking around my dorms in nothing but Hold Ups!," Miller says.
