Teen Killed, 3 Injured In San Bernardino Street Racing Crash

SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA.com) — Police were on the scene of a deadly street racing incident Thursday that also injured three others.

The collision occurred shortly after 10 p.m. Wednesday in a wide open stretch of road located in the area of West Highland Avenue and North Macy Street, according to the San Bernardino City Police Department.

Officers believe two brothers were street racing in separate vehicles in the area when a 19-year-old male driver of a 1992 Mitsubishi GT 3000 lost control of his vehicle, which completely flipped over, and crashed into a 2011 Toyota Corolla that carried three passengers.

"The vehicle lost control and hit a car head-on," said Sgt. John Cardillo. "Three occupants were taken to a hospital with injuries."

The driver was killed by impact. The coroner's office has identified him as Mark Anthony Jimenez, of San Bernardino.

Paramedics transported three other victims to a hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. Their conditions remain unknown at this time.

Detectives are actively seeking witnesses to obtain more information.

Businesses in the area told CBS2's Kara Finnstrom that street racing is common along the stretch of roadway in the area.

The investigation is ongoing.
