Police Apprehend 'Suspicious Man' After Pursuit Around San Fernando Valley

ENCINO (CBSLA.com)  —  Police chased a man they deemed "suspicious" around the San Fernando Valley Wednesday evening.

The chace started in Tarzana and quickly went through Encino, on and off the 101 Freeway, back on surface streets.

The suspect moved at very fast speeds, authorities said.

Stu Mundel in Sky9, said the driver was originally wanted for "being suspicious."

He was driving recklessly.

At one point the chase even went through a crowded hospital parking lot.

Mundel said he was doing more than 100 mph in the chopper and having trouble keeping up with the suspect.

In Sherman Oaks, the suspect jumped out of his vehicle and ran into a Marriott Hotel, near the 405 Freeway and Ventura Boulevard.

CBS2's Peter Daut said the man got out of his car and took off running with police close behind.

Coincidentally, undercover police officers were in the vicinity conducting a prostitution sting at the hotel.

The undercover officers immediately sprang into action and took the suspect into custody.

The suspect was clearly taken off guard by the plainclothes officers giving chase.

As Daut arrived on scene, he encountered the suspect as he was being led away in handcuffs.

The suspect appeared disoriented, Daut reported.

The man faces a variety of charges including reckless driving.

Daut spoke to some of the plainclothes officers (who declined to appear on camera) but they said they were just as surprised as the suspect was.

One of the officer's said "sometimes truth is stranger than fiction."

No injuries were reported.
