Televangelist Robert Schuller Laid To Rest In Garden Grove

GARDEN GROVE (CBSLA.com) — Dr. Robert H. Schuller, a Southern California televangelist and founder of the Crystal Cathedral, was laid to rest on Monday.

The public funeral service began at 10 a.m. in the Christ Cathedral Plaza, which was surrounded by four structures --the Crystal Cathedral, the Arboretum, the Tower of Hope, and the Richard Myer Visitor's Center -- that were built during Schuller's years of leadership.

Schuller's friend, Dr. Dan Chun, Reverend and Senior Pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Honolulu officiated the service, a statement from his estate explained.

The closed casket service was followed by a private burial within the Memorial Gardens. Schuller was buried next to his wife, Arvella.

Christ Cathedral paid for all service expenses in honor of the televangelist's contribution to faith and to the campus, which is now owned by the diocese.

Schuller, 88, passed away on April 2 of esophageal cancer.
