$50K Reward Offered In Fatal North Hollywood Hit-And-Run Accident

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Officials Tuesday offered a $50,000 reward for information that would lead to the arrest of a hit-and-run driver who fatally struck a 57-year-old woman.

Around 8:20 p.m. on Feb. 27, Melva Evangelin Chapman, of Sun Valley, was struck by a vehicle while crossing Saticoy Street at Lemp Avenue in North Hollywood, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Paramedics pronounced Chapman dead at the scene.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Chapman wore dark clothing when she was stuck by the vehicle in an unmarked crosswalk. The driver sped away from the scene without stopping to provide aid.

Detectives described the suspect's vehicle as a white 2005 to 2011 Toyota Tacoma pick-up truck that has damage to the front left portion of the vehicle.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact the Valley Traffic Division at (818) 644-8000 or (818) 644-8021.
