Quickly-Moving Brush Fire Reported Near Prado Dam Threatens Homes

CHINO (CBSLA.com) —  A  quickly-moving vegetation fire is burning near Prado Dam, authorities said.

Chino Fire, Corona Fire and Riverside County Fire are all battling the blaze.

The terrain is mostly inaccessible by ground units, officials said but nearly 90 firefighters are trying to battle the blaze.

Two helicopters were dropping water on the fire -- near where the 71 and 91 Freeways meet -- to try to gain an upper hand.

As of 9:45 p.m., officials said the fire -- which was first reported around 6 p.m. -- reached about 175 acres and was 0% contained.

While there are no structures threatened, firefighters said if the fire continues to move in the same direction some homes could be in the line of fire.

As of 9:15 p.m., officials told CBS2/KCAL9 that "some" mandatory evacuations had been ordered.

Residents on Bluff Road, Homestead Road and Stagecoach Road are under mandatory evacuation.

KCAL9's Cristy Fajardo reported from Norco and said about 300 structures were threatened.

The American Red Cross has opened an evacuation center at Riley Gymnasium (3900 Acacia in Norco.) Also an evacuation center for horse owners is located at Ingalls Park ( 100 6th Street in Norco.)

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
