Woman Arrested On Suspicion Of Committing Identity Theft In Lancaster

LANCASTER (CBSLA.com) — A 62-year-old woman remained in custody Friday on suspicion of committing identity theft over the course of several years.

According to Lancaster Sheriff Station detectives, Katherine Gonsalves was arrested Wednesday on multiple charges of identity theft, which occurred between 2012 and March 18.

Officials explained Gonsalves is accused of using about 74 different aliases in addition to impersonating representatives for fake companies in an attempt to organize fraudulent fundraising events.

According to deputies, she also has been known to rent properties and activate utilities under different names.

Gonsalves is being held on Federal Probation violations, deputies explained.

Detectives believe additional people and organizations, including well-known figures in the entertainment industry, have been victimized by Gonsalves.

Anyone with information about this incident, or believes they may have been a victim, is urged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Lancaster Station at (661) 940-3851.
