Pre-Order Sales, Try On Appointments Now Available To Apple Watch Customers

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Pre-order sales in the highly anticipated release of Apple's first wearable product began on Friday.

Apple Watch is an iPhone-compatible smart watch that has been introduced to customers within the company's wearable technology line.

Customers were allowed to try on the watch during 15 minute appointments at Apple Store locations.

According to Apple, three collections -- Apple Watch ($549-$1,099), Apple Watch Sport ($349-$399) and Apple Watch Edition ($10,000-$17,000) -- provide customers with a wide variety of case and band selections to choose from.

The display case for most models is laminated in a single crystal of sapphire, which employees attest is one of the hardest transparent materials that is available on the market.

Each model features a digital crown, which can be used to navigate through applications and phone settings.

Employees explained real-time notifications for incoming messages, mail and calls alert customers with a gentle tap.

Siri can be activated simply by raising a wrist and saying "Hey Siri." The voice assistant can also be reached by pressing and holding the digital crown.

The watch provides a picture of daily activity and workouts, suggests personal goals and gives rewards for reaching personal fitness milestones.

Other features of Apple Watch include a built-in magnifier, VoiceOver to hear what's on the screen and larger type to make text easier to read.

The battery life is expected to last up to 18 hours, and is designed for charging at the end of each day, employees said.

Apple Watch becomes available for sale in stores on April 24.
