Convicted Sex Offender Indicted On Charges Of Possessing Child Pornography In LA

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Authorities sought the public's help Thursday to provide information regarding a convicted sex offender who resides in North Hills.

According to the FBI, Warren Alec Johnson, 53, was indicted Tuesday afternoon by a federal grand jury in Los Angeles on charges of possessing child pornography.

He faced one count of possession of a compact disc (CD) that contained at least one image of child pornography involving a prepubescent minor under the age of 12, officials said.

In November 2014, officers discovered the CD during a state search of Johnson's residence, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, Johnson was also charged with felony weapons and explosive charges, which remain under investigation by the LAPD.

In 2008, he was convicted in Los Angeles Superior Court of possession of child pornography, according to the FBI.

Officials said they suspect he may have had improper conduct with minors as his prior actions indicates a sexual interest in children.

Authorities explained Johnson remains in state custody on a misdemeanor charge of child annoyance that is related to photographs he took at an elementary school fundraiser that was held in the North Hills Mall in Granada Hills.

If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison.

Anyone with information about Johnson is urged to contact the FBI's Los Angeles Field Office at (310) 477-6565.
