Man Shot, Killed In Broad Daylight In Santa Ana

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — Authorities continued to search the area of Santa Ana for a man police suspect fatally shot another man in broad daylight.

An unidentified female neighbor said the male victim was in his front yard talking to another man when she heard three gunshots.

The incident unfolded about 2:50 p.m. Wednesday near Santa Ana High School, which isn't in session due to Spring break.

The victim was transported to the hospital, where he died. He was 44.

Cpl. Anthony Bertagna of the Santa Ana Police Department said the weapon was recovered a block away.

"Our officers found out information that he left in the eastbound direction, so as they are looking for him, they are looking through the trashcans to see if there is any evidence," he said. "He was wearing a blue jacket. They located a jacket. And inside that jacket was a handgun."

No further information was immediately available.
