$50K Reward Offered In Deadly Hit-And-Run Accident Near USC

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — City officials Wednesday offered a $50,000 reward for information that would lead to the arrest of a hit-and-run driver responsible for the death of a 58-year-old man.

Around 10 a.m., council members, family members of Elias Aceves and Los Angeles Police Department officers attended a press conference at Los Angeles City Hall to discuss the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.

Family members explained they feel the reward is a way to get someone to come forward with information regarding this case. They want justice to be served.

On March 10, Aceves was struck by a vehicle while he walked in a marked crosswalk at the intersection of West 23rd and Portland streets in the University Park neighborhood, according to police.

Aceves was thrown 70 feet into the air and was killed instantly.

Authorities said he purchased a lottery ticket at a liquor store and was on his way home when the incident occurred.

A preliminary investigation revealed the suspect vehicle traveled at a high rate of speed. The incident was captured through security cameras at the University of California.

Detectives described the vehicle as an older model black Mercedes sedan that possibly has substantial damage to the front-end and the windshield.

According to neighbors, speed is a problem in the area.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact the Los Angeles Police Department at (877) 275-5373.
