$100K Reward Offered In Search For Missing UC Berkeley Student In LA

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Authorities continued to search Monday for a University of California, Berkeley freshman that has been reported missing.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, Eloi Vasquez, 19, of San Rafael, was last seen leaving a Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity party, located in the 600 block of West 28th Street, at the University of California around 1:30 a.m. Saturday.

Vasquez's mother, Wendy Margolin, told authorities her son told friends he left the party to go to the beach.

Around 2:18 a.m., he reportedly called a friend in Berkeley and said he was in trouble, lost and scared, Margolin added.

"It's just scary to have no word from him at all," Margolin explained.

According to police, he did not have any form of identification or money with him when he left the party.

Friends and family have become concerned as they have not been able to make contact with Vasquez since then. They handed out flyers with his photo in areas surrounding the USC campus to nearby beaches over the weekend.

Officials added Vasquez is a midfielder on the Cal Bears men's soccer team.

The Cal Athletics Department issued a statement in part that read:"Eloi is a wonderful young man who has excelled both academically and athletically here at Cal. Our entire Cal Athletics family is very concerned for Eloi's safety, and our first priority is to help in any way we can locate him."

Detectives said Vasquez stands 6-feet-tall and weighs 175 pounds. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, gray pants and white tennis shoes.

Police reviewed security video around campus, however, no leads were discovered.

Family members offered a $100,000 reward in hope of locating Vasquez.

Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is urged to contact the Los Angeles Police Department at (213) 485-2582.
