LAPD: 18-Year-Old Arrested In Connection With Venice Skateboard Attack

VENICE (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say they have made an arrest in connection with an attack on a young woman beaten repeatedly with a skateboard in Venice.

No immediate details were released about the suspect, although the Los Angeles Police Department said the person was 18.

The dispute unfolded about 9 p.m. Thursday at Venice Beach Skate Park, spilled out onto the street at Pacific and Windward avenues, and was captured on video.

In the clip, the woman is seen being attacked in front of dozens of people. The footage shows one of the suspects slamming her head with a skateboard, which knocked her to the ground. Moments later, a man lifts the woman up and that's when another suspect punches her.

Police said the victim in her teens to early 20s was sent to the hospital where she underwent surgery for a cracked skull and broken jaw.

"It's really sad that a guy would do such a thing to a girl over something probably petty," Eric Laguardia, an employee at a Venice store, said. "Luckily, the guy is already behind bars."

Police said additional suspects are still being sought.
